A message from Carson Klosterman, North Dakota Corn Utilization Council Chairman
What a difference a few months make! In spring, we were talking about dry fields and an easy planting season. Now, many producers are dealing with too much rain. While replanting and prevent plant decisions have been made, the western half of North Dakota is enjoying the extra moisture.
New Facilities Supporting Agriculture
The Council has attended several exciting groundbreaking and grand opening events this spring for facilities we support:
The Peltier Complex at NDSU is a new state-of-the-art facility that will enhance research and education in food science, meat science, and related fields. It will also house the Northern Crops Institute.
The Bolley Agricultural Laboratory, named after pioneer Henry L. Bolley, will be one of NDSU’s largest capital projects ever. It will support research in plant pathology, agronomy, soil science, and more.
Red River Valley Fair’s Ag Education Center has been improved with exciting new features, including grain bin entrances and a yellow North Dakota corn floor. The center has educational exhibits about corn and corn products like ethanol.
Looking Ahead
Coming up, we have several important events:
- National Corn Growers Meetings
- Trade team visits with educational sessions through Northern Crops Institute
- U.S. Grains Council meetings
Six delegates from North Dakota Corn will participate in the US Grains Council Board Meeting. Four will work on action teams to develop new ideas for increasing corn usage in their regions. Two first-time attendees will learn about future participation opportunities.
We’re encouraging our board members to “stretch their wings” by attending events supported by checkoff dollars and bringing the best North Dakota Corn has to offer for years to come.
